How Using a Social Media Management Tool Will Overhaul Your Marketing

How Using a Social Media Management Tool Will Overhaul Your Marketing

September 1, 2016 Uncategorized 1

Today, 84% of B2B marketers use social media, and nearly all of them struggle with it.

In addition to the fact that juggling various social platforms can be difficult, social media, in general, is time-consuming, and creating and distributing good social content takes work. This is especially true when you consider the fact that the average enterprise-level company has 178 social accounts.

Despite the time commitment involved, however, social media is something that all marketers need. While managing several different social channels can feel overwhelming, social media has a 100% higher lead-to-close rate than any form of outbound marketing, so it’s far too valuable to ignore.

That leads us to the golden question: how do you manage social media without sacrificing all of your other responsibilities in the process?

The answer is simple: you start using a social media management tool.

How a Social Media Management Tool Will Preserve Your Sanity

Before I started using a social media management tool (Hootsuite, in my case), I spent several hours each morning creating social content for three different platforms.

While I got the social content done (mostly), I frequently missed breakfast, rushed into meetings, and pushed back the rest of my work day to get everything developed, hashtagged, and posted.

To put it simply, it was exhausting. And I know I’m not alone in this experience.

The fact of the matter is that many marketers struggle with social media. According to a recent Social Media Today report, 25% of marketers spend between 6-10 hours each week on social media, and while 43% of marketers name social media their most efficient channel, 49% also say it’s their most difficult.

Luckily, this all starts to turn around when you introduce a social media management tool.

In addition to allowing you to post to several different platforms from a single dashboard, a social media management tool also allows you to keep an eye on analytics and track engagement on all of your various posts, which is fantastic for small businesses, startups, and fast-growing companies alike.

The 5 Best Social Media Management Tools of Today

If you’re looking for an easy social media management tool to streamline your marketing, check out these five simple platforms:

1.Hootsuite

I use Hootsuite, so I’m biased to its convenience and simplicity. One of the more popular social media management tools on the web, Hootsuite offers several different plans (ranging from free to paid) to accommodate a variety of users and social media styles.

While Hootsuite integrates with all of the major platforms (Twitter and Facebook, for example) it also recently began allowing integration with Instagram, which has been a huge relief for those of us who use the platform often. While Hootsuite won’t post to Instagram automatically, it makes it simple to pre-schedule posts and publish them with a few clicks on a push notification.

Ideal for anyone who wants to send content to all of their various channels at once, Hootsuite is my top pick in social media management tools.

2. Buffer

A close second to Hootsuite, Buffer is designed for people who want a streamlined, easily navigable management platform.

Like Hootsuite, Buffer offers plans varying from free to paid, but unlike Hootsuite, Buffer’s free plan offers service on five different social platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google+), a slight upgrade from Hootsuite’s three.

3. SocialOomph

SocialOomph is a little-known social media management platform that’s catching on with marketers. Like the other two platforms mentioned here, SocialOomph offers a free plan and optional paid upgrades.

SocialOomph also provides some helpful tools like keyword tracking, URL shortening, and scheduled posting. While it offers fewer bells and whistles than other social media management platforms, SocialOomph is a great option for marketers just getting started with social media.

4. Sprout Social

Sprout Social offers all of the bells and whistles, which can make it a bit intimidating for anyone unfamiliar with social media management tools. Stuffed to the brim with options for optimizing and scheduling your content, Sprout Social offers things like insight and statistics tools as well as demographic and engagement metrics. While beginners won’t likely use these options right off the bat, they’re great things to grow into as your social strategy finds its legs.

3 Smart Tips for Using Social Media Management Platforms

While having a social media management tool will streamline your marketing hugely, it’s important to understand the best practices for using these tools, as well. Here are a few to get you started:

1. Plan ahead

The beauty of social media management tools is that they allow you to plan ahead, so take full advantage of this and schedule your posts weeks or even months in advance. In addition to helping you save time on a day-to-day basis, this will also ensure a predictable and consistent social strategy.

2. Batch your content

Instead of doing what I did and creating a day’s worth of social content the day of, batch create all of your content on a single day of the week. This allows you to plan out your social presence and ensure that your social posts are varied and speaking directly to your target audience.

3. Use an editorial calendar

An editorial calendar is a wonderful way to organize your content and ensure that you’re publishing the right social content on the right platforms at the right time. It’s also an excellent way to spot gaps in your content strategy and fill them accordingly.

Social Media Management Platforms: Your Key to Streamlined Content

Social media marketing is tough, but it doesn’t have to be all you do. By finding a good social media management platform and using it to schedule and post your social content, you can save yourself time and effort while also building a consistent and reliable content strategy.
